This morning we woke up to yet another fresh blanket of snow. Between 4:00 PM yesterday and this morning it snowed at least 5 inches. So, earlier today Bryan and I just had to go explore. There is a nature trail right behind the houses across the street that belongs to our neighborhood so we thought it was the best place to look. We walked around a bit and Bryan got some great pictures. We also found a HUGE open untouched field of snow behind the nature trail. We will wait for Bryan’s family to come and we can make a whole family of snowmen! I can’t wait to see how many more inches we are going to get today.
Temperatures here in the Pacific Northwest this past week have been in the teens and twenties. It snowed close to 6 inches at our house last weekend! However, that didn’t stop Bryan from putting one more strand of lights on the house. It is definitely a big change for Bryan and I after living in the desert for 22 years. It’s a little too cold for my comfort, but I have never lived anywhere where it has snowed for Christmas. So, I’m hoping the weather man’s predictions are right and that we will indeed have a white Christmas.
For all of you that are wondering . . . no this much snow isn’t normal. For some reason we were just blessed with a lot of snow this winter season. I keep trying to tell everyone that it doesn’t get really cold where we live; but the snowfall every other week really isn’t helping my case. Fortunately, Bryan was able to work from home on Monday when it snowed and we were able to take a short walk during one of his “breaks” and get some beautiful pictures. Most of the pictures were taken on our “property”. Our neighborhood owns some land across the street from mine and Bryan’s house so we decided to explore the snowy trail. But seriously . . . it doesn’t normally snow this much here.
On Saturday morning Bryan and I woke up to about an inch of snow. What an amazing and peaceful sight it was. We decided there was no better time to get a Christmas tree and made our way to a self cut lot. We had agreed on getting a tree upwards of 12 feet but once we were out in the lot standing next to the trees, we had no way of telling how tall they actually were. After we finally found one and nearly froze we prayed the tree would stay on top of the car during the journey home. Thankfully everything made it home in one piece, but when we went to put the tree in the stand we totally busted the legs off the stand. Turns out the “sturdy” metal stand we thought we had was only good for trees up to 7 feet. After a trip to several stores we finally found a stand to hold 12 foot trees.
If I counted correctly, we put about 900 lights on the tree. Funny thing is we only have 750 lights on the outside of the house. Growing up my dad used to put about 1,000 lights on our Christmas tree, I must have inherited his love of lights.
During the day all the snow from the previous night had melted, but at 2:00 it started to snow again. Luckily Bryan and I had finished putting the lights on the house 2 minutes before the snow started falling. Around 7:00 that night we measured and it had snowed 3 inches. I was told it never snowed in Western Washington so I was quite surprised at the 3 inches. It ended up being the perfect day to put up the Christmas decorations.
